Acclaimed as "a player of impressive authority and presence" (The Strad) and "one of the top violinists of tomorrow" (Diapason), Yossif Ivanov, at the age of 23, has quickly established himself as one of the leading violinists of the young generation. He was awarded the First Prize at the Montreal International Competition at the young age of 16, and the Second Prize as well as the Public Prize at the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels at the age of 18.
Over the past seasons Ivanov has made acclaimed debuts in the major European cities such as London (London Philharmonic Orchestra), Berlin (Konzerthausorchester), Paris (Orchestre National d'Ile de France), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Vienna (Wiener Kammerorchester), Salzburg (Mozarteum) and Geneva (Orchestre de la Suisse Romande).
Yossif Ivanov has been invited to play recitals at, among many others, Menton & Montpellier Festivals in France, Philharmonie Essen in Germany, Carnegie Hall in New York and Ladies' Morning Musical Club in Montreal with his regular recital partners Itamar Golan and Philippe Ivanov.
As an orchestral soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Residentie Orkest The Hague, English Chamber Orchestra, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Lille and all the major orchestras in Belgium. He has worked with well-known conductors such as Neëme Järvi, as Vladimir Jurowski, Marin Alsop, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Philippe Herreweghe, Jaap Van Zweden, and Yoel Levi.
Next season brings another return to the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, this time as soloist with the Liège Orchestra as part of a tour that includes stops in Vienna, Paris, Warsaw, Budapest, and Linz. He is also to perform with the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, and give several recitals in Germany.
Highlights of the 2009/10 season included orchestral debuts in the USA (on tour with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski) and in Asia with the Malaysian Philharmonic and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He also appeared with the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, and the Brabants Orkest under Yuri Simonov at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. On the recital stage, Ivanov performed at the Flanders Festival, the Beethovenfest in Bonn and the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti Roma.
In November 2006, his first CD on the Ambroisie/Naïve label was awarded a Diapason d'Or de l'Année, the most important recording industry award in France. His first concerto CD, a coupling of the first concerto of Shostakovitch and the second of Bartók, was very well received by the musical press. For his second orchestral disc, which includes works of Henri Dutilleux and will be released later this year, Yossif Ivanov collaborated with the Orchestre de l'Opéra National de Lyon and Kazushi Ono.
Yossif Ivanov has studied the violin with Zakhar Bron, Igor & Valery Oistrakh and Augustin Dumay. He is the youngest violin teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
