Concert 3: Sunday, January 22, 8pm, Orpheum Annex
Ruckert Lieder: A Chamber Music Celebration

A performance of chamber music featuring members of the VSO, and mezzo soprano Sarah Fryer performing Mahler’s beautiful song cycle, the Ruckert Lieder. Also on the program, the extraordinary Clarinet Quintet by Johannes Brahms. This concert is performed in Vancouver’s coolest new performance space, the Orpheum Annex, immediately next door to the Orpheum Theatre.

The Resurrection Symphony

One of Mahler’s greatest masterpieces, and one of the greatest symphonies ever written – Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 ‘Resurrection.’ An astonishing work, the Resurrection symphony explores themes of life, death, the afterlife and spiritualism, with some of the most intense and passionate music ever written. This work eclipses even Mahler’s famous Symphony No. 8 ‘Symphony of a Thousand’ with its passion, musicality, and its epic scope. The Resurrection symphony truly is, in many ways, Mahler’s crowning symphonic achievement.
