The adult music education series for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra was introduced in 2001 with the support of Music Director Bramwell Tovey and a group of dedicated volunteers. The mission of the Musical Encounters program is to promote and foster interest in classical music by inviting VSO musicians and guests from the local music community to share their experiences with the audience.
The broad format for this series of 90 minute programs is a presentation including a talk, musical component and Q & A session. Previous topics have included: the speaker's music background and experiences, their instruments, a particular period of music, favourite composers and upcoming concerts in the VSO season.
