Corina Deng

Bio

Canadian violinist Corina Deng, recognized for her expressive depth and compelling stage presence, has garnered international attention through major competition achievements and performances across North America and Europe. In 2025, she received the AnaChumachenco Prize at the Kronberg Academy and won First Prize at the 60th Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition in Germany. She was also awarded First Prize, along with the Audience Prize and the Prize for Best Interpretation of the Commissioned Work — Ana Sokolović’s Onde, punti, voci — at the 2024 International Tibor Varga Junior Violin Competition in Switzerland. Earlier distinctions include First Prizes at the 2021 MTNA National Competition in the United States and at the Canadian Music Competition in 2014 and 2017.

Corina made her orchestral debut as a soloist at the age of eight at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, and her solo recital debut at the age of ten in Cleveland, performing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Since then, she has appeared with orchestras including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Chursächsische Philharmonie Bad Elster, Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra, South Czech Philharmonic, Orchestre de l’Agora, and Richmond Orchestra. She has also been featured as a guest artist at ChamberFest Cleveland, NPR’s From the Top, and the Mini Violini series at the Concours musical international de Montréal.

An avid chamber musician, Corina frequently collaborates with her sister, pianist Athena Deng, and has participated in programs including the Perlman Music Program, Morningside Music Bridge, Chamber Music Northwest, and the Heifetz International Music Institute. She began playing the violin at age three and was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music at fourteen. Her mentors include Ida Kavafian, Jaime Laredo, the late Jan Mark Sloman, Nicholas Wright, the late Andrew Dawes, and Lawrie Hill. She has also worked closely with Itzhak Perlman, Li Lin, Boris Kuschnir, Augustin Hadelich, and Noah Bendix-Balgley.

Corina currently studies with Catherine Cho and Donald Weilerstein and attends the Juilliard School, where she is honoured to be a recipient of the Kovner Fellowship.
