Bio
Joo Bin Yi, a native of South Korea, earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was a Francis W. Hatch Presidential Scholar. His principal teachers include John Ferrillo, Principal Oboe of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Anne-Marie Gabriele, Second Oboe of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
He recently completed four seasons with the New World Symphony, during which he recorded Aaron Copland’s Quiet City under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas.
As a guest musician, Mr. Yi has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and San Antonio Symphony. He has also appeared as guest principal oboist with the Seattle Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Florida Orchestra, Seoul Arts Center Festival Orchestra, and in projects with the Going Home Project and Wald Ensemble in South Korea.
As a fellow, he was invited to the Tanglewood Music Center (2019–2020) and the Round Top Festival Institute (2013), where he performed extensively in orchestral and chamber music settings.
