Neil Craighead’s rich bass-baritone voice has been heard across the country in operatic and concert repertoire of all styles for the past decade. A graduate of UBC and the Canadian Opera Company’s prestigious Ensemble Studio program, Mr. Craighead is now seeking his doctorate at the University of British Columbia while maintaining an active performing career and private teaching studio.
This season he appeared as Theseus in Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Vancouver Opera and Zuniga in Bizet’s Carmen with Pacific Opera Victoria. Most recently he was heard as the Bass Soloist for Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Vancouver Bach Choir. Next season, Neil will make his role debut as Wotan, the king of the gods, in Edmonton Opera’s new production of Wagner’s Das Rheingold. Mr. Craighead is also in demand as a teacher and vocal clinician and this summer he returns as faculty to Opera NUOVA’s Summer Vocal Intensive.
Neil is a proud father and devoted husband who enjoys collecting vinyl records, fishing, and carpentry in his spare time.
