Bio
Sean Gao began studying violin at the age of six with his father, Tony. At thirteen, he made his solo debut with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra and later became a prizewinner of both the Seattle Young Artists Music Competition and the Shean National Strings Competition.
As a soloist, Sean has performed Vivaldi’s Summer and Winter from The Four Seasons and Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with ensembles in Vancouver and Seattle, including the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, and is an avid chamber and orchestral musician. Sean has served as the concertmaster of the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra at Rice University, and has attended festivals such as Orford and Pacific Music Festival.
Sean studied with several distinguished mentors, including Nicholas Wright, Barry Shiffman, and Paul Kantor. He holds multiple degrees in Violin Performance from Rice University, along with ARCT diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music in both Violin and Piano. Sean is currently a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
