Bio
Valerie, 15, began her musical journey with a children’s percussion ensemble at age five. “I never thought I would be so passionate about the marimba until grade four when I discovered its uniqueness,” says Valerie. She became captivated by the marimba's distinctive blend of rhythmic clarity and melodic expressiveness, leading her to pursue it further by starting private lessons in grade 5. Her dedication has been recognized through several opportunities, including winning the bronze from the Boston International Music Competition, earning first place at the Taiwan Music Competition, and being named one of CBC's "30 Hot Canadian Musicians Under 30, 2025 Edition". Valerie is excited to perform Séjourné’s “Concerto for Marimba and Strings (2005)” at the Orpheum with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra during the season, and she looks forward to continuing her studies in percussion and sharing her love of music with others.
