David Brown, Double Bass
David has been a member of Vancouver’s professional music community for more than forty years. During this time he has performed with most of the musical organizations in the city (Masterpiece Music, Curio, Music in the Morning, Vancouver Men’s Chorus, Chor Leoni, Vancouver New Music, Vancouver Children’s Festival, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Festival Vancouver, Vancouver Jazz Festival, Cantata Singers, UBC Recital Series, Vetta Chamber Music, Music on Main, Sonic Boom). He also has extensive film, commercial recording and musical theatre experience.
David was the recipient of four BC Cultural Arts and two Canada Council Arts Grants, which enabled his studies at the Juilliard School. He was the Principal Bass of the CBC Radio Orchestra from 2004 until it was disbanded in 2008. He has attended numerous music festivals in Canada, the US and Mexico and also taught at a number of summer music camps. He is a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Turning Point Ensemble and the Bellingham Festival Orchestra.
David enjoys a wide variety of musical opportunities and has a particular interest in small ensemble settings of a chamber music or improvisational nature. David has a project ‘Friends in Low Places’ with trombonist Jeremy Berkman and the duo have recently been awarded a Canada Council Arts Grant enabling them to produce a streamed concert this fall of newly commissioned works for trombone and double bass.
