On Saturday, June 1, 2024, Vancouver Symphony Day of Music presented by BMO will return with over 100 free concerts, celebrating a wide variety of musical genres at twelve stages across Vancouver. Every year, Day of Music celebrates the joy that music brings and its power to create meaningful connections with others, while showcasing the extraordinary range of musical talent and artistry in our community. Music lovers can discover a wide variety of experiences including performances by the Mohammed Assani Trio, Saluting Chinese Musical Masterpieces with Zhimin Yu, Mini Music Makers classes for toddlers, a workshop by the Royal Academy of Punjab Dance, a concert at the Orpheum with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and many more!
“Here at the VSO and VSO School of Music, we believe that the power of music should be a vital part of everyone’s daily life and we’re working to make music accessible to everyone in the community.” says Angela Elster, President & CEO of the VSO and VSO School of Music. “Day of Music is the VSO’s largest community engagement event of the year; employing hundreds of local musicians, showcasing the greatest variety of genres, and reaching over 25,000 members of the community in a single day. We invite you to spark your musical curiosity and discover your next favourite local artist or explore a new genre of music.” Audiences can enjoy performances between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. at twelve stages across the Lower Mainland, including the Orpheum, next door at the VSO School of Music, Bill Curtis Square and Helmcken Plaza in Yaletown, Christ Church Cathedral, TELUS Garden, Deloitte Summit, and pop-up performances at YVR.
The day will culminate with a free concert with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of VSO Music Director Otto Tausk at the Orpheum at 8:00 p.m. For those outside of the Lower Mainland, free digital performances and educational seminars will be available a DayofMusic.ca, including a special live broadcast of the VSO’s evening concert.
