Crescendo is a professional development symposium for music specialist teachers presented by the Vancouver Symphony Education Department in partnership with the VSO School of Music and UBC School of Music. Crescendo features sessions on teaching band, strings, choir, elementary music, and jazz, held at the VSO School of Music.

Highlights from past sessions include:

  • instrumental techniques workshops taught by VSO musicians
  • expert clinicians including Jonathan Girard, Chris Bianco, Jodi Proznick, Jim Sparks, Morna Edmundson, Sandra Meister, and Marcelline Moody presenting on a variety of music education topics
  • Keynote performance with Maestro Bramwell Tovey and VSO Chamber Players Woodwind Quintet
    option to observe a VSO rehearsal of Bramwell Tovey’s Fugitive Voices and Anna Höstman’s Singing the Earth with First Nations mezzo-soprano Marion Newman
  • Special session: First Nations Perspectives in Music Teaching: a roundtable discussion with Kwagiulth and Stó:lo First Nations mezzo-soprano Marion Newman
  • Special session: BC’s Music Education Strategy & the New Curriculum: a lunchtime roundtable with Mark Reid
