Designed for non music specialists, or to refresh and strengthen your skills, the session will highlight key aspects of playing that you can bring directly to your students.

This session will be about all of the basic fundamentals essential for uncommon instruments. Whether your students are starting from scratch or switching from a different instrument, we’ll cover everything you need to know to get started!

Students often have their favourite songs or artists, and harnessing this element of personal preference in various ways can expose them to moments of excitement and calm. Using music as a tool to foster an encouraging environment allows students to express themselves more fully and facilitates moments of connection. 

Sometimes we don’t need the whole orchestra to make music together! This workshop will delve into the vital role chamber music plays in school music programs, emphasizing the importance of leadership, collaboration, and teamwork. Practical strategies for forming successful ensembles and selecting repertoire will be discussed, helping educators empower students to thrive both musically and personally. 

This workshop will cover strategies for introducing group musical learning in the classroom, focusing on building a supportive choir environment. Participants will explore techniques for developing trust, encouraging creativity, and fostering collaboration, while adapting to diverse skill levels. Practical tools for vocal exercises and ensemble singing will be shared to help create an inclusive, dynamic space for musical exploration. 

Led by the VSO RBC Resident Conductor, this session will cover time management, choosing appropriate repertoire, rehearsal strategies to keep students engaged, setting expectations, and student professionalism all towards the goal of making progress in every rehearsal.
