Jean Coulthard Readings
The VSO presents 15th Edition of Jean Coulthard Readings
Wednesday, March 4, 2020, 10:00am – 1:00pm | Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver
The VSO’s Jean Coulthard Readings showcase new works by emerging composers in an orchestral reading session that is free and open to the public.
Named for one of BC’s most influential and beloved composers, the readings provide an invaluable opportunity for young composers to have new works played by a professional orchestra. Taking place on March 4 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Orpheum Theatre, the session offers the public a chance to witness the kinetic process of orchestral music creation.
Emerging composers Jack Campbell, Matthieu Foresi, Henry From, Lucas O’Brien, Aaron Graham, Peter Krejcar, and Dan Jeremy Reyes were selected by a jury consisting of Assistant Conductor Andrew Crust, Composer Advisor Rodney Sharman, and VSO violinist Rebecca Whitling to have their works featured on the 2020 edition of the Jean Coulthard Readings.
VSO Assistant Conductor Andrew Crust will host the event, leading the orchestra in reading, rehearsing, and performing pieces by the seven chosen composers. Read more about the composers and their works here.
Chosen composers have participated in a Part Preparation Seminar led by VSO Librarians Minella Lacson and Alex Clarke and have received individual mentoring by VSO Composer Advisor Rodney Sharman.
