Professional Development Symposium for Music Educators and teachers

The VSO Education team invites music teachers from all school districts to our upcoming Professional Development Symposium, Tutti: Empowering Music Educators on Friday, February 13th, 2026

New Sessions This Year:

  • ReconciliACTION with Indigenous Storyteller Kung Jaadee: First Nations storyteller, author and educator Kung Jaadee will lead participants in an engaging workshop on how to create their own ReconciliACTION plans.
  • Percussion technique session with VSO Assistant Principal Timpanist/Section Percussionist: Our very own Zach Masri will give a refresher course. Brush up on foundational techniques and have any questions regarding anything percussion answered!
  • Inquiry Projects in the Music Classroom with VSO School of Music Director of Jazz Studies: International educator and Jazz Bassist Jodi Proznick will lead an engaging session to help empower your students in their learning.

What is Tutti?

This unique, day-long workshop features VSO musicians and education experts from our community leading specialized sessions, offering participants opportunities to learn from professionals in the field. 

The sessions will cover a wide array of topics tailored to both elementary and secondary levels, with a focus on band and strings. Participants will gain practical insights and techniques to enhance their teaching, from observing a VSO Open Rehearsal to mastering instrument fundamentals and addressing key issues like supporting students with performance anxiety. 

Through hands-on training and collaborative discussions attendees will explore effective strategies to nurture musical growth and creativity in their classrooms. The workshops are designed to create an environment where educators can engage with VSO musicians, share experiences, ask questions, and exchange ideas.
