The Power of Musical Integration

Join us for this unique opportunity to experience two generations of musical talent take on Bach’s ground-breaking masterwork, as the VSO School of Music’s Sinfonietta joins forces with virtuosos of the world class Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for an audacious performance of the complete set of all six Brandenburg Concertos.

Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos shocked the world with their rule-breaking structures and instrumentation. Famous for their liveliness, colour and unique textures, they generated new sounds and possibilities that would change the landscape of orchestral music forever.

With 14 sets of solo instruments that surpass the conventional limits of virtuosity, these works sound as modern and vital as ever, easily recognizable in popular culture from environments as varied as “Die Hard”; “Slaughterhouse 5” and the theme to “The Antiques Roadshow”.

Conducted by Sinfonietta’s  Music Director Carla BirstonVSO Concertmaster Nicholas Wright and VSO Principal Violist Hung-Wei Huang, this breathtaking performance from the VSO School of Music’s signature ensemble is a must for all fans of classical music, and those who want to hear the magic that takes place when symphony orchestra soloists and the genre’s rising stars of the future come together.
