Barbara Croall is Odawa First Nations (Giniw dodem, Manidoo Mnissing) and balances her time composing, performing and teaching music, with work in outdoor education rooted in traditional Anishinaabeg teachings, work with aboriginal youth and singing in traditional ceremonies. She graduated from the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany and the University of Toronto and has studied with Samuel Dolin, Alexander Rapaport, Arthur Levine, Sir Peter Maxwell-Davies, Robert Saxton, and Helmut Lachenmann. The VSO commissioned a new work from Croall to open the 2020/21 season.
