Hot off a whirlwind tour of Germany with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, JUNO Award-winning virtuoso Jan Lisiecki returns to Canada for an exclusive, one-of-a-kind performance live on the Orpheum stage. The acclaimed pianist joins Maestro Otto Tausk to perform two of the greatest works of all time for piano and orchestra—Grieg’s Piano Concerto AND Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21—in his first appearance with the VSO since 2011!

“[in] Grieg’s effective Piano Concerto in A minor, Lisiecki was not only able to show off his technical skills – which include precise high speeds, but also, for example, a shockingly mastered pianissimo – but was also a kind of “luxury bar pianist” who was relaxedly moving through hellishly difficult terrain. Control and the language of movement make this possible, as well as the danceable and sung passages of the Grieg concerto. The large orchestra was not satisfied with a discreet accompanying role, in the final movement it was carried away to thunder over the piano part. It didn’t seem coarse, but absolutely compelling: such moments must also be possible in music.”
