Audience-favourite Maestro Jun Märkl returns with a program tracing the evolution of the French sound: lush and masterful orchestration, cyclical forms, and great thematic cohesion. Young Hungarian cellist István Várdai brings his famed “Du Pré-Harrell” Stradivarius, built in 1673, to tackle Saint-Saëns’ beloved Concerto No. 1.
This concert is part of the 2019-2020 Masterworks Diamond and 2019-2020 Symphony Sundays series.
WEDNESDAY, JAN 29: Join cellist István Várdai in an intimate setting as he instructs the next generation of students from the VSO School of Music.
Join us at 7:00pm on January 24 and 25 for a pre-concert talk.
