No other composer changed the landscape of symphonic music as much as Ludwig van Beethoven, boldly defying convention to usher in the Romantic era and championing ideals of freedom, equality and unity. In honour of the 200^th anniversary of the composer’s death, the VSO is presenting a rare opportunity to experience all nine symphonies within a single season. The Beethoven Symphony Cycle is divided into three distinct periods, unfolding across five concerts, exploring Beethoven’s roles as revolutionary, innovator, and visionary.
