Transforming Lives Through The Power of Music
Together, we can aspire to cultivate communities where music and music education are values, available and accessible to everyone.
At the heart of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and at the core of our mission, are our key pillars that drive everything we do. From championing accessibility and inclusivity, to supporting and fostering musical excellence, to connecting communities inside and outside the concert hall, these pillars sum up the driving force of the VSO Organization.
Education
The VSO School of Music, our state-of-the-art institution behind the Orpheum Theatre, welcomes over 2,200+ regularly enrolled students to study music each year. Led by a dedicated faculty of 150+ world-class instructors as well as musicians of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, our school remains a sought-after institution for students of all ages and levels. Our School of Music is generously supported by a passionate donor community in keeping with our mission of education accessibility; expanding in-person, virtual and outdoor programming; providing programs for at-risk youth; and delivering unforgettable opportunities to learners of all ages.
Youth & Access
With our six pillar programs focused on youth and access at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra—philanthropic support enables our mission of changing lives and allowing fulsome access to the power of music. Our education initiatives include Elementary School Concerts, Symphonic Encounters- our open rehearsals for secondary students, Relaxed Performances, VSO Connects – Elementary & Secondary, Kids Concerts and the Jean Coulthard Readings and Mentorship Program for emerging BC composers. To learn more about these programs, please visit our website at www.vancouversymphony.ca.
Outreach & Touring
Accessibility to music and musical education remains a core tenet at the VSO, with free community events such as our TD Connecting Communities concert, BMO Day of Music and the Path Forward being some of our largest and most inspiring events of the concert season. By taking the orchestra out into the community and on tour, we seek further opportunities to provide free and accessible music to the community, collaborate with other musical groups and institutions and strengthen the cultural fabric of the city of Vancouver and the overall musical community in Canada.
