Audience-favourite Maestro Jun Märkl returns with a program tracing the evolution of the French sound: lush and masterful orchestration, cyclical forms, and great thematic cohesion. Young Hungarian cellist István Várdai brings his famed “Du Pré-Harrell” Stradivarius, built in 1673, to tackle Saint-Saëns’ beloved Concerto No. 1.

THE BEETHOVEN EXPERIENCE: A MOST REMARKABLE NIGHT PART 1: PASTORALE REDUX
December 22, 1808 has been called the “most remarkable” night of Beethoven’s career. An astounding four-hour concert saw the premières of both the 5th and 6th Symphonies, the Choral Fantasy and his Piano Concerto No. 4 along with an improvised piano fantasy — Beethoven conducting and playing all of it. The Pastorale is Beethoven’s portrait of nature. This concert is part of Beethovenfest.
