This year, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) celebrates the opening of its 107th season alongside a remarkable milestone: 75 years of partnership with TELUS, its longest-standing corporate supporter.

Since 1950, TELUS and its prior business entities have been instrumental in supporting the VSO’s mission to create, curate, and connect irresistible musical experiences, making live orchestral music accessible to everyone across the Lower Mainland. This enduring collaboration has not only helped sustain the VSO’s artistic excellence but also amplified its impact within the community.

As the VSO’s Premiere Education Partner, TELUS continues to champion initiatives that foster connection, learning, and inspiration through music. This year, the partnership expands to support the VSO School of Music’s acclaimed Youth Empowerment Program (YEP), nurturing young talent and opening doors to the world of music for those who may not otherwise have access.

“All of us at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the VSO School of Music are enormously grateful to TELUS and we deeply value our 75-year relationship,” said Angela Elster, President & CEO of the VSO and VSO School of Music. “TELUS and the VSO are united in our belief in the power of music to build community, to elevate the spirit, to support the next generation of musicians and music lovers and to heal. On behalf of VSO musicians, staff, volunteers, teachers, and students we offer our heartfelt thanks to TELUS and we look forward to working together for another 75-years to build healthier, more joyous communities.”

TELUS also serves as presenting sponsor of the beloved VSO concerts that feature iconic films presented on the big screen at the Orpheum, with their scores performed live by the full forces of the orchestra. The 2025/26 Movie Nights Season kicks off on Oct. 24 and 25 at 7pm, with performances of Disney’s Hocus Pocus in Concert featuring John Debney’s memorably spooky score.

“TELUS’ 75-year partnership with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is reflective of our team’s deep commitment to giving back to the communities where we live, work and serve,” said Darren Entwistle, President and CEO of TELUS. “We believe access to the arts is essential for vibrant, connected and progressive communities. This is one of the many reasons why we proudly support the VSO and initiatives such as their Youth Empowerment Program. Indeed, music has the unique power to unite, inspire and educate. We are honoured to help make these meaningful experiences possible, enriching the lives of our future generations through our passionate support of the amazing VSO!”

Live orchestral music serves as a unifying force, fostering creativity, cultural appreciation, and emotional well-being. Through this partnership, the VSO and TELUS reaffirm their commitment to making these benefits accessible to all.
