David Danzmayr conductor

Described by ´The Herald´ as „extremely good, concise, clear, incisive and expressive” David Danzmayr is regarded as one of the most exciting and talented European conductors of the younger generation.

Having served for three years as assistant conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, David has conducted this ensemble in more than 70 concerts, performing in all the major Scottish concert halls and in the prestigious, Orkney based, St Magnus Festival. Since then he worked regularly as guest conductor with the RSNO and will return to Glasgow for two further weeks in the upcoming season.

David likewise makes regular appearances as a guest conductor for other internationally renowned orchestras, having worked with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Mozarteum Orchester, Haydn Orchester Bozen, Heidelberger Philharmoniker, Orchestra of the Scottish Opera, Salzburg Chamber Philharmonic, the Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of the RSAMD and the Bruckner Orchester Linz to name a few.

He had the honour of conducting the opening concert of the Wörthersee Classic Festival with Mahler´s 3rd symphony on the composers´ centenary to great critical acclaim.

Besides numerous re-invitations he will make his debut next season with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Jena Philharmonie, Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.

David Danzmayr received his fundamental education at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg where he initially studied the piano and completed his conducting studies with the highest honours. He was further influenced by his time as conducting stipendiate of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra with Pierre Boulez and with Claudio Abbado and during his additional studies in the conducting class of Leif Segerstam at the world renowned Sibelius Academy. Furthermore he gathered important experience as assistant to Neeme Järvi, Stephane Deneve, Walter Weller, Sir Andrew Davies as well as Pierre Boulez in Vienna and Dennis Russell Davies in New York.

David Danzmayr is a prize-winner of the prestigious International Malko Conducting Competition and was the only European conductor to reach the final of the prestigious Chicago Symphony Orchestra Sir Georg Solti competition. He has been awarded the Bernhard Paumgartner Medal by the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum.

Besides his extensive classical repertoire David also devotes himself passionately to the performance of 21st century music. He is Music Director of the Ensemble Acrobat and a regular guest conductor for the Austrian Contemporary Music Ensemble. With both ensembles he has repeatedly recorded for broadcasting and CD for the Austrian National Radio (ORF).

In the upcoming season he is once more invited as music director, conductor and guest tutor by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and by the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute.
