Vancouver, Canada (December 4, 2018) – The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra welcomes back critically-acclaimed pianist, Yefim Bronfman for two nights only, in Yefim Bronfman Plays Brahms on December 6 and 8 at the Orpheum Theatre.

  • Bronfman makes his welcome return to the Orpheum stage to perform the
    monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 of Johannes Brahms.
  • Brahms Piano concerto No. 2 is nearly 50 minutes in duration and lasts longer than any other Romantic piano concerto.
  • Any soloist who masters the piano passages needs to have significantly wide hands and nimble fingers.
  • Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 is considered one of the “Everests” of the repertoire.
  • It is a very large piece and therefore, not frequently performed – a very demanding piece for the soloist and for the orchestra as well.

Program Information
The program for the evening includes Piano Concerto No. 2 of Johannes Brahms, in a concert that also features one of Richard Strauss’s great tone poems, Don Juan. Conducted by Jun Märkl.

Founded in 1919, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is one of Canada’s most active and successful performing arts institutions; the largest performing arts organization west of Ontario and the third largest symphony orchestra in the country.
