Bio

Alexander Wide is a recent addition to the VSO, joining as Principal Horn in September 2023. He has moved with his partner from London where he lived for 10 years. Before joining the VSO Alex was the Principal horn of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Britten Sinfonia. Whilst in the UK Alex performed regularly as Principal horn with many of the UK’s leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philharmonia, The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and the newly formed Sinfonia of London composed of UK principal players. He can be heard on numerous orchestral recordings, film and T.V soundtracks. He has toured all over the world performing in many of the great concert halls of Europe, Japan, America and China.

Alex graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a first class Undergraduate and Masters degree. His principal teachers were Hugh Seenan, David Pyatt, Chris Parkes, Richard Bissill and Jeff Bryant.

Alex has given masterclasses and seminars at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is regularly called upon as a guest examiner at the Royal College of Music. Alongside his private teaching, he provides lessons to aspiring professionals and in preparation for orchestral auditions.

Alex is looking forward to the outdoor life Vancouver has to offer and hopes to carry on his paddle boarding out in English bay.
