Bio

Filipino-Canadian Mara Ayque is a first-year student at the University of British Columbia pursuing a master's degree in opera performance. Since 2019, she has been a student of Dale Throness. She played Julia Bertram from Jonathan Dove's Mansfield Park in her very first operatic role at UBC. Mara also sang Foreign Princess in Rusalka, The Duchess of Plaza-Toro from Gondoliers, and Marcellina from The Marriage of Figaro. She had the chance to sing the role of Gertrude in Hansel & Gretel the previous year. Her most recent performance was as Anaide in the opera Il cappello di paglia di Firenze. Mara is currently employed with St. Christopher's Anglican Church in West Vancouver as the music director.
