Stephen Wilkes

Bio
Originally from Trenton, New Jersey, Stephen Wilkes joined the VSO in 1969. In 1977, he was appointed Assistant Principal Viola, a position he has held since. In addition, Mr. Wilkes performs regularly with the CBC Radio Orchestra.
Mr. Wilkes attended the New England Conservatory in Boston, where his teachers included Burton Fine, Rudolf Kolisch and Eugen Lehner as well as Gunther Schuller, Paul Zukofsky and Buell Neidlinger in 20th Century Studies. He also was a Leonard Bernstein Fellow at the Berkshire Music Center.
In Canada, Mr. Wilkes studied with Steven Staryk and Gerald Stanick. He also worked with the Hungarian String Quartet and William Primrose at The Banff Centre.
