Evan Hulbert, Associate Principal Bass

Evan Hulbert was appointed Associate Principal Bass in June 2015. He has performed with the Detroit, Boston Symphony Orchestras, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, and Houston-based Musiqa New Music Collective. He was a featured guest artist at the Été musical de Barachois recital series and the Quadra Island Chamber Music Festival, in addition to other solo and chamber music appearances across the Pacific Northwest and Texas.

Evan received his Bachelor of Music from Rice University in 2015, and has been a fellow at Music Academy of the West, New York String Orchestra Seminar, Klangspuren Schwaz Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie, and the Tanglewood Music Festival where in 2015 he received the Maurice Schwartz Prize. He was a prizewinner at the 2011 Washington Music Educators’ Association Solo Competition.

His teachers have been Miriam Chong, Jordan Anderson, Tim Pitts, and Paul Ellison.

Evan teaches privately and is an active member of the VSO’s Connects school outreach program.
