Experience the classic music of Gene Kelly’s iconic films in an entirely new way, performed by a live symphony and accompanied by insightful stories drawn from Kelly’s own reflections. Highlights include scenes from Kelly’s most iconic films, such as Singin’ in the RainAn American in ParisBrigadoonSummer StockLes GirlsIt’s Always Fair Weather, and Anchors Aweigh. You’ll see him splash in puddles, spin with Jerry the Mouse, passionately embrace beautiful Cyd Charisse in “Heather on the Hill,” tap dance on roller skates to the music of Andre Previn, and more. Plus, you’ll be treated to rarely-seen footage from television specials and remarkable, newly-discovered audio recordings.

As with other symphonic/cinema shows, the music has been carefully ‘scrubbed’ from the film clips, but, in this case, Kelly’s singing, dialogue, and exhilarating tap dancing are left brilliantly intact, giving audiences the sense of a vivid live event. Written and hosted by Kelly’s wife and biographer, Patricia Ward Kelly, the show is designed as an intimate, interactive experience that appeals to all ages. By sharing her husband’s behind-the-stories, Patricia brings the clips to life and engages the audience by presenting classic numbers in a way that allows people to “hear” the music like never before.

Gene Kelly said that the purpose of his work was to bring joy and that’s exactly what you will experience with this moving, uplifting show. The VSO plays, Gene Kelly sings and dances and Patricia Kelly takes audiences on an intimate journey into the heart and mind of her talented husband—a truly exceptional concert experience.

If you’re like others who have attended these sold-out performances, you’ll end up singing and dancing on your way home—and maybe even swinging on a lamppost!
